For what ages does City Speech Center provide therapy?

City Speech Center provides therapy to infants/toddlers through adulthood. Each therapist has their own areas of expertise as well as the specific age groups that they service.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

All children develop at different rates. There is a range within typical development. Please see our milestone development guidelines to help determine if you should contact a speech language pathologist. Often, parents instinctively know that their child is having difficulty relative to their peers and it is a good idea to contact an SLP if you do have any concerns.

Generally speaking, you should seek the advice of an SLP if your child:

  •  struggles to say words or is easily frustrated because of the way he/she talks or communicates
  •  uses fewer words than other children his age
  •  stutters or has a hoarse voice
  •  has play or socialization skills that seem different than his/her peers
  •  you or others are having difficulty understanding your child
How often are speech therapy sessions and how long is each session?

Most therapists set up weekly sessions with their clients. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour long depending on the needs of the specific client. Most sessions are 45 minutes long, but 30 minutes is usually sufficient for younger children and adults.

Do parents participate in their child’s session?

We always encourage parental participation. This enables parents to implement the methods and strategies at home. It easier to apply what you see rather than getting a quick update at the end of a session.

I have a busy schedule. Do you offer sessions on evenings and weekends?

At this point, we do not. However, we are looking to add these service times in the near future.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes, there is free parking in front of the building.
